About Sarah

About Sarah Nourish found it's way into creation as a brain child of Sarah Bergs, the founder. Following this a little bit of her story and how the scope and passion originated: Nothing about Sarah conforms to expectations...
She was whisked to hospital in a Puma helicopter on the day she was born, as her mother was living and working deep in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. Her earliest memories are of the silence (and the heat) when the generator went off at night... and the whooping of the hyenas... Home in the early years of her life was Motswari Game Lodge and under the loving care of her nanny, Minah Mathebula, she learned to speak Xitsonga, weave grass mats and be bush wise ("Never touch a snake and never ever touch an elephant!") She attended the Timbavati Home School, which meant her mom was her teacher, and her brother, Daniel, her only classmate. Every 8 weeks her family hopped into their 4WD camper van and headed off... Travelling through the wilderness and villages of Southern Africa on their 2 weeks leave... This left Sarah with an indelible love of wild places and a heart for it's people.
Sarah became involved with Southern Cross School, the first nature based school in South Africa and possibly the world. The influence of this school, with its environmental philosophy, gave Sarah determination to make a difference and make strong commitment towards community upliftment, it etched it's mark on Sarah's soul... For the first 2 years after school, the world was Sarah's oyster! From organic farming in the south of France to running with the bulls in Pampalona, catching the summer solstice at Stonehenge and hiking the Cinque Terra of Italy, Sarah endeavored to "do it all" But her first love was and remains... to be Africa! Sarah joined the l + l = l Pledge Drive for Wilderness Vision in 2009 and was part of a 2 man team that traveled the length and breadth of South Africa, raising funds and awareness for conservation. She spoke to over 14 000 school children, planted trees and distributed seeds, which will hopefully bear fruit for generations to come. Sarah has now returned to her roots... the South African bush, determined to make a difference to the people who live around her. Seeing so much waste in the face of so much want spurred her to take personal responsibility and set the wheels of Nourish in motion.
